I’m a big fan of Jamie’s winter veg coleslaw and the fact that it uses yoghurt rather than the more traditional mayonnaise. The list of ingredients is pretty expansive, making it easy to substitute or leave out specific veg altogether. As such, I’ve pretty much added what I fancy – don’t feel obliged to stock to a recipe. 


To prep:

1: Grate or hand cut all veg as thinly as possible (a food processor is ideal for this)

2: Mix all the veg together and add a few generous dollops of yoghurt, the juice of half a lemon and some chopped mint. Give the coleslaw a good mix and add more lemon or yoghurt if you wish. Season with pepper. 


  • 2 sticks of celery (£1 for a bunch)
  • 1 x carrot (10p)
  • 1/2 small white cabbage, or 1/2 small red cabbage, or a mixture of both (75p)
  • 1/2 bag radishes (50p)
  • 1/2 bunch spring onions (50p)
  • mint – Alternatives include dill, parsley, chervil
  • 1 x lemon (30p)
  • 150ml yoghurt (£1)
  • any other leftover veg –  fennel, beetroot, red onion, shallot,
