I turned the big 3-0 this week and in order to celebrate properly, was taken by the husband to a very fancy lunch at Berner’s Tavern.

The menu looked amazing, and we were both almost ready to order when the table next to us received their shared main course; a slow roasted shoulder of lamb, with white beans and ham hock ragout, saffron potatoes and pesto. The smell was unbelievable and it only increased when the waitress started pulling apart the meat.

At this point we were obviously staring but the gentleman next to us was happy to say that he’d had this many times before and guaranteed it tasted as good as it smelt and so we had to take his advice and order this ourselves. I can confirm it was scrumptious!

This could easily have served 4 and although we did our best to plough through, when our waitress offered us a doggy bag, we knew it would be wise to take it… and a good thing we did – this made the best sandwiches the next day.
